-
What have I done on this film so far:
-
Groomed both characters
-
Created simulation install file for grandpa
-
Organizing folder structure and pipeline
-
Modeled some assets
-
-
What will I be doing this quarter:
-
Cloth simulations for tests and shots
-
Continuing to make sure our pipeline is working for animation to cfx to lighting and rendering
-
-
Check out Lorena Da Silva's blog to read about the look development and texturing done on this film
-
This is the link to get to the shot list google sheet:
-
Above is a master shot list that keeps track of all the shots from animation all the way down to lighting and compositing
-
Above is the character effects shot list
-
Each shot is labeled with the different pieces of clothing that need to be simulated
-
Light Green = Simulation not required
-
Dark Green = Simulation fully required
-
Week 1 Goals:
-
Set up simulation install file for Alya with walk cycle
-
Work with the team to create guidelines for setting up the lighting shot files and assign shots for people to build
-
Shot 20 for January 12th (Class 03)
-
Class 02
-
Alya walk cycle sim test and simulation file set up
-
t-shirt = knitted cotton
-
shorts = jean
-
Class 03
-
Alya walk cycle sim test and simulation file set up finalized
-
Wind Discussion:
-
Lattice deformer and other deformers for tree animating
-
Paint effects grass and sim or deformer
-
Animators will animate subtle wind gust movements to indicate wind passing during key moments
-
Secondary sim animation will be added towards the end of production to the kites
-
Adding subtle sim wind rustling on work bench papers
-
Subtle sound effect for wind
-
Class 04
-
Next Week:
-
Finalize Shot 20
-
Start Shot 23
-

-
Shot 27 <-- If shot 20 and 23 are finished early
Class 05
-
Shot 20:
-
Fixed arm pit jittering
-
Fixed bottom of shirt dent
-
1
2
3
-
Shot 23:
-
Since this was a short shot I wanted to show some of the process clips of my simulation iterations
-
1st clip = version 01
-
2nd clip = version 02
-
3rd clip = final version
-
-
Shot 27 (first pass sim):
-
Speaking with director/animator about how to analyze this sim and if animation needs to be fixed (there is a cut in this shot)
-
Work on refining sim
-
-
Next Class:
-
Continue to work on Shot 27
-
Class 06
-
Shot 27 A & B :
-
Progress on getting clothes to simulate properly for the shot
-
After clothes are simulating without weird collisions or errors, I will go in and add the wind element
-
-
Next Class:
-
Get Shot 27 closer to being finalized
-
Work on hair sim and troubleshoot render farm rendering for girl facial expression test
-
Class 07
-
Girl Facial Expression Test :
-
Been having a lot of issues with the hair simulation using maya nhair
-
I tried to take it into houdini and I had it working but then it crashed and I lost the file. Now it can't get it to work. (guide deform error)
-
-
Shot 27 A & B :
-
I was only able to tweak this sim a little
-
I fixed the interpenetration of the head scarf
-
Need to fix the sleeves area and add the wind effect
-
-
Next Class:
-
Continue to explore solutions for the hair
-
Continue to work on shot 27
-
Class 08
-
Girl Facial Expression Test :
-
Was able to achieve a sim that I was a lot happier with in Houdini
-
The maya sim felt too loose and the houdini sim provides the right mix of movement and stiffness
-
-
Girl Facial Expression Test (continued):
-
I set up a houdini master file so I can just swap out the animation alembics and hit sim to get the sims started easily
-

-
-
Next step is to run a test render on the farm to make sure the hair is following the guides
-
Class 09
-
Girl Facial Expression Test :
-
Figured out how to export alembic of simmed hair guides from houdini
-
The guides were being exported as one combined curve node in maya
-
I found out all I needed to do was check on "build hierarchy from attribute"
-
-
After I was able to get the xgen simulation to finally be able to render on the renderfarm
-
Only thing left is to fix those few glitched frames
-
-
Then once I start shots I'll fine tune the hair sim settings to be the actual way I want
-
-
Shot 27 A & B :
-
Was able to finalize shot 27
-
-
Next Class:
-
Cut together animatic with updated animation and simulation shots
-
Class 10
-
